Accepting or Settling?
A client recently asked me this question: “How do you know if you are settling for someone or accepting them?” I found this to be a very good question. How do you know? Settling for someone is when you choose to be with that particular person despite the fact you know in your heart you are compromising your values and principles, usually because we are afraid the right person will not come along or we are afraid to be alone. Accepting someone is when you love them despite their flaws, as we all have some, and have faith and believe they will try to meet your emotional needs as best they can because they love you and want to make you happy and vice versa. Be authentic and state your truth; don’t be afraid to stand up for what you need in a relationship, as it is better to be alone for the right reasons than to be with someone for the wrong reasons.
